GET READY FOR A DIFFERENT KIND OF THERAPY

Early in my career, actually in graduate school, I began to grow dissatisfied with the talk therapy approaches and how limiting they were in helping clients with trauma or severe, often debilitating symptoms. My real educational journey began as I stepped out of college and into trainings that would teach me to be a more well-rounded, empathetic therapist. I had no idea the growth I was about to achieve and the deeper relationships with clients that would happen as a result. And that is where the magic really happens…in that relationship.

It is a privilege for me to be with the weakened, the traumatized, the oppressed and the downhearted. I welcome all who come needing and seeking a deeper experience within themselves and the world that is both accepting and affirming. I offer a place where people can truly show up as themselves, without judgement or fear and be seen as their story unfolds. My compassion-centric approach is available to any and all who need it and you don’t have to identify with a specific population to be welcome here.

Reasons to Consider Virtual Therapy

My own venture into the world of virtual therapy aka Telehealth, began during the pandemic, when I felt more or less forced to go virtual to keep my clients safe. I had in person trainings lined up and they were either cancelled or changed to online. Suddenly, we were all thrust into the challenge of adapting clinical trainings to an online format as well as learning how to use the technology to assist in our learning and in helping others. Then, we all began to discover how the virtual format allowed for some conveniences and therapeutic work to be enhanced in a way that couldn't in the office. I began to develop a new love for technology and combining it with therapy.

Here are some benefits and conveniences of virtual therapy:
  • You get to choose the location and any creature comforts you have access to, such as coffee, your favorite mug, your most comfortable chair, a blanket, even your pet!
  • You can take me to a personal location that has special meaning for you that may enhance your processing.
  • We get to use the camera as an experiment of personal space, which view feels best. You can choose to turn your camera off to experience vulnerability at different degrees.
  • You don't have to factor in time to travel to your appointment.
  • Weather will not disrupt our scheduled appointments, neither will illness, if you feel up to logging on when you are ill, I will be here.
  • Since I am not traveling to an office, I have more space on my calendar for appointments.
  • For couples, you both don't have to be in the same location for your appointment, meaning, more flexibility in your schedules to meet.

While there are more benefits, and many  that I keep learning from my clients, I encourage you to give it one chance. I would have never believed it myself if someone and told me prior to the pandemic that I would go 100% virtual as a clinician one day.  But here I am, loving the therapeutic experiences I would not otherwise get to know.
